Privacy policy
Bibliato respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we use it, and how you can manage your account.
Last updated: 23 June 2026
1. Who we are
Bibliato is a social platform for readers and students that lets you manage your library, ratings and reviews, messaging, and listings for selling, giving away, or trading books. In this policy, "we", "us", and "Bibliato" refer to the operator of the platform available at bibliato.com.
2. What data we collect
Account data. When you register, we collect your email address, password (in encrypted form), and basic details needed to create an account.
Profile data. You can add your name, username, bio, location, avatar, and other public information you enter in profile settings. Your public profile is visible to other users and visitors according to your choices.
Books, ratings, and reviews. We store books you add to your shelf, reading statuses, ratings, reviews, requests, and listings you publish. Some of this data may be public to other users of the platform.
Followers and social interactions. We process information about who you follow, who follows you, and likes and comments on reviews when you use those features.
Messages. When you send messages to other users, message content and attached photos are stored so you can continue the conversation and so we can respond to abuse reports.
Technical data. We may automatically collect your IP address, device type, browser, language, access time, and similar data needed for security, maintenance, and service improvement.
3. How we use data
- creating and maintaining your account;
- displaying your library, profile, messages, and content you share with the community;
- enabling communication between users about books and listings;
- sending service notifications (e.g. password reset or security alerts);
- preventing abuse, fraud, and violations of platform rules;
- analyzing usage to improve functionality and stability.
4. Analytics
Bibliato may use analytics tools (e.g. PostHog) to measure visits, events, and app performance. This data helps us understand how the platform is used and what to improve. Where possible, we use aggregated or pseudonymized data and do not sell your personal data to advertisers.
5. Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session storage, security, and app settings (including PWA installation). Essential cookies enable sign-in and core features. You can limit cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work correctly without them.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only when necessary to operate the service, for example with trusted hosting, database, email delivery, and analytics providers, or when required by law. Public content you publish yourself (profile, reviews, listings, active requests) is visible to other users according to platform features.
7. Retention and security
We retain data while you have an active account or as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, or resolve disputes. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights
Under applicable data protection laws, you may have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data in profile settings;
- request deletion of your account or certain data, where applicable;
- restrict or object to certain processing, where the law allows;
- withdraw consent for optional features where processing is based on consent.
To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@bibliato.com or via the contact form.
9. Children
Bibliato is not intended for people under 16. If we learn that we collected a child's data without appropriate parental or guardian consent, we will take steps to delete such data.
10. Policy changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the site or email when appropriate. Continued use of the platform after changes are published means you accept the updated policy.
